Grants for Financial Assistance from the
RCMP Benefit Trust Fund

Division Procedures/Guidelines:
General
- Funds are available to give financial relief and promote the well being of former members of the RCMP, members of their families, their widow(er)s and their dependents who are in need of assistance.
- A dependant is a person who has a valid claim in law against a former member for support.
- Financial assistance can be given in the form of a single grant, or where justified, a series of payments made over a period. When a series of payments is approved, the Division Executive is responsible for retaining the funds advanced and dispensing the required amounts as directed. Should the recipient’s circumstances improve to the point where further periodic payments are unnecessary or in the case of a death, all unused funds are to be returned to the Treasurer, National Headquarters.
- Appoint a Benefits Officer who will be responsible for investigating all requests for assistance.
- Have your Division Secretary obtain a copy of the RCMP Benefit Trust Fund - Benefit Officers’ Guidelines, if your Division does not have a copy. Follow the Guidelines and your experience as an investigator when investigating requests for assistance.
- Contact the National Director responsible for the RCMP Benefit Trust Fund for any assistance that you may require in assessing the applicant’s request.
- If your investigation indicates that assistance is warranted, forward the necessary application to the National Office through your Division President.

Sec 23(3) The money paid to the Benefit Trust
Fund pursuant to this section shall be used
- (a) for the benefit of members and former members and their dependants;
- (b) as a reward, grant or compensation to any person who assists the Force in the performance of its duties in any case where the Minister is of the opinion that the person is deserving of recognition for the service rendered;
- (c) as a reward to any person appointed or employed under the authority of this Act for good conduct or meritorious service; and
- (d) for such other objects for the benefit of the Force as the Minister may direct.
