INFORMATION FOR DISABLED VETERANS

I would like to report a situation to secure health equipment from VAC.    I had asked VAC to purchase a machine to assist in my personal health which was subsequently denied.  This came about through a normal request and they asked me to put it in writing.  In the end, there was one major issue.  The machine I asked for was not on the “approved schedule of equipment “supplied by VAC.  In conversation, they did hire a therapist to visit me, who recommended a TENS unit and VAC did approve this equipment as it was “scheduled.”  The TENS unit is simple system to send electrical pulses to the pain area to trigger nerves to ease the pain.  This machine is for a history of chronic pain while on disability and not necessarily effective for all people.

Bottom line, if you suffer from chronic pain, this machine is available for you upon a suitable request.   The key to success is to make your request for “Special Equipment” as there are provisions covering such issues.  After my experience with VAC, it stands to reason that there is other equipment available for other conditions.  I encourage disabled veterans to investigate this aspect for comfort assistance.

As some of you know by now, *Gerald Colborne* passed away yesteray morning (*Saturday May 30/09) at 6am.* He had a difficult afternoon and evening, but with pain relief and an angel of a nurse, he passed peacefully with Norma, Dave, Jane and myself around him. He was very comfortable and at home. This part was difficult for Norma, but she is managing well. Both Dave & I found it surprising how quickly his condition had changed over the last few weeks. But, we are all grateful that he is not challenged by this horrible disease any more.
At Gerry's wishes, there will be no funeral home visitation or religious service_. On *Friday, June 7th, 2009* at 1:00 PM, we will be having a *Celebration of Life for him at the Burlington Golf and Country Club. (Since golfing and horses were his passions, this venue seemed very appropriate.)
